Arithmetic

What a purchase of JSE shares costs: the arithmetic

1 min · Data of 7 November 2026

The money you need is the number of shares times the price, plus brokerage and taxes. The first part is arithmetic on the close; the second is in the broker's fee schedule and on the contract note. This page does the first part for each company on the board.

Ten, a hundred and a thousand shares at the close

On top of the table

A contract note lists brokerage and other charges besides the value of the trade. In South Africa, purchases of listed shares also carry securities transfer tax, which the law sets (SARS states the rate as 0,25% on its securities transfer tax page, read on 6 November 2026; check the page for the current rate). Brokerage and the exchange's charges are set by those bodies and by the broker, and none is in the data this site reads.

The table's figures are therefore a floor for what you need, not the total.

Closes are not live prices

Every figure here is the close of 6 November 2026. The price you trade at is set by the order book at the moment of the order. Use the table for orders of magnitude and check the live price with the broker.
