Cents, not rand
JSE prices are quoted in cents. A close of 65 936c is R659,36. On company pages both appear, rand first. Mixing the two up changes a cost by a factor of a hundred, so it is worth a moment's care each time.
On this board, CPI closed at 489 771c, that is R4 897,71.
Change and previous close
The change is the close against the previous close, as the board prints it. The previous close shown on company pages is worked out from it: close ÷ (1 + change). There is only one source for these figures, so they are checked for internal consistency, not against a second reading.
On 6 November 2026 0 of 6 closed up, 6 down and 0 unchanged.

Position in the range
Position is (close − low) ÷ (high − low), shown from 0 to 100. It describes where the price stands inside the year's low-to-high, not where it is going, and it moves every session as old days leave the window.
CPI stands highest (97,4) and SBK lowest (64,5) on this board.

Questions before the first purchase
Why are JSE prices in cents?
It is the exchange's convention. Divide by 100 for rand.
Where does the previous close come from?
It is worked out from the change the board prints. There is no second source for it.
Does a low position mean a share is cheap?
No. It says only that the close is near the year's low.
Why is there no chart?
The source of daily bars did not answer on the day of reading, so no history is stored.
